Le Valli del Secchia e l’Alta Garfagnana

56 day-long walking tours and 2 one-week treks along the paths of the eastern part of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park, one of the youngest but of great interest and variety of environments. In fact, it ranges from the famous Pietra di Bismantova to the amphitheaters of glacial origin, from the gorges of the “Schiocchi” to the villages and fortresses of the Garfagnana, from the Triassic gypsum of great scientific importance to the industrial archeology of the hydroelectric works of a century ago. Straddling Emilia and Tuscany, between the provinces of Reggio, Lucca and Massa, the high valleys of the Secchia and Serchio have for decades been valorised by regional parks, state reserves, refuges, naturalistic studies, but with the establishment on both sides of a single national park, these jewels of the intertwining of natural environment and cultural landscape will be able to be coordinated and brought to the attention of a wider audience of hikers. The excursions are divided into 4 homogeneous sectors: Bismantova and Triassic gypsum, Alta Val Secchia, the Cusna Valleys, Alta Garfagnana. This is followed by the proposal of two treks to slowly discover a territory: the Spallanzani Crossing Path (with a new variant of great historical interest) and a ring around the “Giant” massif, Monte Cusna, which together with Monte Prado constitutes the ” roof” of the National Park. Have a good walk.
