Cortina d’Ampezzo

Dolomiti 1

Cortina d’Ampezzo is one of the most famous Dolomite tourist centers in the world, with its splendid location in the center of the Ampezzo basin. Geographically, the town extends in the upper Bòite Valley, in the eastern Dolomites, and is surrounded by a grandiose mountainous amphitheater with the Tofane to the west, the Pomagagon to the north, the Cristallo to the north-east, the Faloria and the Sorapiss to the east, the Becco di Mezzodì, the Croda da Lago and the Nuvolau – Averau group to the south. In this guide we have slightly widened towards the south, leaving the conca itself with a couple of routes to climb the slopes of two other famous Dolomite mountains: Pelmo and Antelao. Cortina’s excursion offer is truly rich and varied, with routes of all levels of difficulty, from the “familiar” ones at the bottom of the valley to those suitable both for first-time hikers and for more experienced hikers. On purpose, we never wanted to cross over into mountaineering and, therefore, the routes along treacherous ridges, even if equipped, were avoided. We have also tried to always insert, in each ring, a particular and captivating historical, naturalistic or landscape interest to make itineraries more interesting which, in any case, have their strong point in free open-air activity.
