The Way of Saint Benedict
16 days on foot or by bike along a new and fascinating itinerary in Umbria and Lazio, following in the footsteps of Saint Benedict, touching the three most significant places in the saint’s life: Norcia, where he was born; Subiaco, where he laid the foundations of his Rule; and Montecassino, where he lived the last years of his life and founded the abbey which was able to resist and be reborn despite four destructions. From the Sibillini mountains to Cascia and Rieti, through ancient transhumance routes and paths once beaten by brigands and smugglers, to discover an Italy made up of fortresses, medieval castles and villages perched on the hills. From there we will continue to the Aniene valley, we will go up the slopes of the Ernici mountains up to the Certosa di Trisulti, we will then arrive at Casamari with its splendid abbey, and, through Arpino and Roccasecca, we will finally reach Montecassino. In the guide, everything you need to know to get on the road: detailed maps, description of the route, elevations, places to visit and where to sleep.
