I 50 Sentieri più belli d’Abruzzo

Abruzzo, the “region of the parks”, is home to the highest peaks of the Apennines. This guide explains to hikers how to safely climb Como Grande, Majella and Velino. At the foot of the peaks, our itineraries allow you to admire beech woods, edelweiss and chamois, to touch ponds and waterfalls, and to observe the griffon vulture and the eagle in flight. To see the bear and the wolf it takes a little luck.

But Abruzzo is not just nature, and it’s not just mountains. Among our 50 itineraries there are suggestive walks in the hills, walks along the coast of Vasto, Cerrano and Ortona. Other routes reach fortified villages and castles, follow ancient sheep tracks, climb towards hermitages and sanctuaries where the faith of the people of Abruzzo is still alive. There is also an “urban trekking” between the monuments and the nature of Pescara.

Stefano Ardito, born in Rome, is a journalist, documentary maker and writer. Walker and mountaineer, he knows the Himalayas, Patagonia, the mountains of the Mediterranean and Africa. About thirty years ago, with the first editions of A Walk in Lazio and A Walk in Abruzzo, together with Iter Edizioni he started a successful series of guides which continues today with this volume.
