The most beautiful excursions
He border between Abruzzo and Lazio rises the mighty massif consisting of Velino and Sirente, the limestone heart of peninsular Italy.
Eternal witness of extraordinary events, the forked pyramid of Velino, one of the few mountains visible from the hills of Rome (it is the third peak of the Apennines), has preserved its charm of “dead mountain” but hides, in its glacial valleys and in its plateaus, naturalistic treasures well alive.
The Sirente, with its long rocky ridge, indelibly marks the Aquila horizon and offers great views and strong emotions to the hiker who travels it.
From the peaks, exceptional views from one sea to another and, always, the presence of the “latent lake”, the Fucino.
