La Via Francigena Meridionale
Da Roma a Monte Sant’Angelo e fino a Santa Maria di Leuca
800 km sull’antica rotta dei pellegrini
The Via Francigena did not end its journey in Rome, but continued as far as Puglia, where pilgrims used to embark for the Holy Land. It is the Via Francigena Meridionale, rediscovered and valued by the authors of this guide who retraced the paths of the ancient pilgrims. A spiritual itinerary which, at the same time, is a cultural itinerary rich in historical, archaeological and landscape suggestions. The journey consists of 30 stages: one proceeds along the historic and beautiful Via Appia and passes through the Lazio countryside which gently fades into that of Campania; you face the Apennines, to descend on the sunny Apulian tableland. The authors, among the first and best known experts of the Via Francigena, offer not only the indications to get on the way, but also the deepest and most authentic meaning of the journey. The volume contains all the useful information: when to leave, a detailed description of the route – even for cycling -, maps, altimetry, official variants, places to sleep and places to visit.
